Fairs and markets have a long tradition in Offenburg. Located close to the French and Swiss borders, at the center of Europe the Messe Offenburg-Ortenau exhibition grounds cover a total area of 175,000 m². The indoor exhibition area in permanent halls covers 23,000 m². Messe Offenburg-Ortenau counts amongst the twenty most important fair organisations in Germany. As well as five of its own trade shows, the center hosts more than seven third-party exhibitions and a large number of other events every year, ranging from concerts to television productions.
Following the modernization of the Ortenauhalle, and the opening of the Baden-Arena in 2005, an additional combined area of 10,000 m² is now available.
Between 400,000 and 500,000 guests visit the exhibition ground in Offenburg each year. They mainly come from the border regions between Germany, France and Switzerland. Around 3,000 companies from 30 countries exhibit their products in Offenburg each year.
