Offshore Europe is one of the biggest oil and gas conference and exhibition, held biannually in the Scottish city of Aberdeen. In 2009 it is going to take place again in September, starting on 8th and closing on 11th September. This year Offshore is expected to attract more attendeeds even than the record breaking show last year with total number of daily visitors was over 40,000. 104 countries and 1400 companies participated in the 2005 show with more than 25% being representatives from outside Europe; in 2007 even more attended. Many contracts were signed at the show making this a major event in the oil and gas calendar.
Due to the outstanding popularity of the show, this is the busiest time of the year for Aberdeen. It is a small city with population of under 200,000 people. The traditional industries of fishing, paper-making, shipbuilding, and textiles have been replaced by the oil industry and Aberdeen is nicknamed the Oil Capital of Europe, making the city an obvious choice for hosting Offshore.
It is never too early to reserve accommodation for this event. There is a comparatively small number of hotels in Aberdeen and naturally they are all booked up for the show. Prices can reach up to 300-400 GBP a night and finding anything under this price, even for a three-star hotel, as long as it's within the city limits is considered a bargain. The best way to reduce costs is rent a cheaper room in a guesthouse or lodging with just the basic facilities. Making a reservation well in advance is imperative as it is the only way to guarantee a room will be available. Another way to pay less is to rent a car and drive to the venue. The only alternative option is to take advance of the offers of some of the hoteliers which provide shuttle service and transportation to the show.
